The DVI clinic, run by Trudi Birger, is open 5 days a week from 8am to 2pm and treats around 100 children a day. It is the only facility of its kind that offers:
• Free treatment for underprivileged children; – Oral health education for each family, including preventive oral care instruction; – Six dental chairs equipped with advanced technology;
• An international group of volunteer dentists;
• A full complement of dental assistants and hygienists led by the General Manager, Dr. Roy Petel, DMD, Ph.D., a specialist in pediatric dentistry.
DVI Clinic is a non-profit, charitable institution. Approximately 95% of its income comes from donations of money, materials, equipment and services. The materials are donated by some of the largest international companies that produce dental materials.
Holocaust survivor and microbiologist Trudi Birger dedicated her life to the well-being of others. In 1980, the government ended public dental programs, and Trudi became a great success. Her dream came true with the creation of the Dental Volunteers of Israel (DVI) Foundation, and she led the organization for the rest of her life. Today, inspired by her vision and to ensure that DVI continues to provide this important service to the underprivileged children of Jerusalem, DVI has received three important awards as a volunteer service organization from the Mayor of Jerusalem, the Minister of Health, and the President’s Award for Volunteers.
